Returning battery-powered appliances – Instructions and steps
Special transport regulations apply to the return of batteries and appliances with integrated batteries, such as our VAC 25 hand vacuum sealer. The lithium-ion battery used in these appliances is classified as dangerous goods for transport purposes, which means that special regulations regarding packaging, labelling, and shipping must be observed. These requirements also apply to returns within the scope of the statutory right of withdrawal (14 days) or if you, as a consumer, wish to make use of our warranty services (valid only within Germany).
Please also note the information in the operating instructions and the safety data sheets for the respective appliance and battery.
Before returning the appliance, please proceed as follows:
Step 1: Check for battery defects or damage
Before shipping, please carefully check whether the battery cell shows any signs of defects or damage. Typical signs include swelling, deformation, outgassing, leaking substances, greasy residues, or deposits on the poles. Defective or damaged batteries must not be returned under any circumstances. In such cases, carefully remove the battery from the appliance (avoid direct contact with leaking substances) and return only the appliance without the battery. If there are no signs of damage, proceed to the next step.
Step 2: Packaging
IIdeally, use the undamaged original packaging for the return shipment, as it provides the necessary stability. If the original packaging is no longer available or is damaged, choose a sturdy and durable alternative. If possible, pack the battery cell separately in the original inner packaging (small box with QR code). Alternatively, another non-conductive packaging, such as a cardboard box or plastic bag, may be used. Ensure that the battery or appliance cannot move freely inside the package – use padding material if necessary.
Step 3: Labeling
The shipping package must be labeled with a hazardous materials sticker. In this case, a “UN 3481” label measuring 10 x 10 cm is required. If you are using the original shipping packaging, please check whether the “UN 3481” label is still present and legible.
Otherwise, please use the hazardous materials label provided during the return process along with the return slip and follow the instructions. Important: the label must be 10 x 10 cm in size, and the border must be red. Do not resize the label. Please affix the hazardous materials label to the long side of the package (not on the top, bottom, or across corners). Also ensure that the label is protected from weather (e.g., by covering it with transparent tape or a clear plastic sleeve).
Please note that you are responsible for complying with the applicable hazardous materials transport regulations when returning the item.
Notes on the Disposal of Damaged or Defective Batteries
Damaged or defective batteries must never be reused and must be disposed of properly. Used batteries and rechargeable batteries must not be disposed of in household waste. You can dispose of them free of charge at local collection points such as recycling centers or in designated collection boxes in stores that sell batteries and rechargeable batteries.
Important: Used batteries and rechargeable batteries containing lithium (identified by the abbreviation “Li” for lithium) pose an increased risk of fire and explosion, especially when exposed to heat or mechanical damage. This can lead to serious consequences for people and the environment.
Please refer to the user manual and disposal instructions for this appliance and its battery.
